MacIntyre's Underworld (Five) Gangster (The Trials of Mr Lattlay Fottfoy) This documentary is the first in a three part series. Investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre spends time in the criminal underworld with a disturbing look at a parallel society where, in the absence of the Police, gangsters and enforces tackle problems as diverse as noisy neighbours and baby snatching. This episode follows one of Manchester's most notorious crime families, the Noonans.
This Extreme Productions documentary premiered at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival on Saturday 28th August 2004. This documentary marks Donal's debut as a director. Note: Desmond Noonan was stabbed to death only days before this documentary's public broadcast. Gangster was shortlisted for the Grierson Awards 2005, Best Documentary on a Contemporary Issue.
